I hate this place. Literally hate it. I wish CUNY did me a favor by rejecting me. I think I would have been happier in debt at another law school and selling my soul to corporate rather than having to deal with these assholes on a daily basis.

If you're not an SJW that quickly adheres to mob mentality, don't even bother trying to apply to this school. As they say, caveat emptor! It's much too late for me to leave now.

Oh dude, I go to this school too and found this when I googled CUNY Law SJW.

All I gotta say is just suck it up. Its a small price to pay for not going into massive debt for a law degree.

Yeah the school is 99% an absolute nightmare of a social scene if you aren't into any of the activist stuff, but there def are some non SJW people out there on the low who pretend to care about it but really are just in it for the cheap JD and already have something lined up for them afterward.

I always thought the worst thing you can tell someone in this school is that you are just there to get a decent job without any debt attached, and not to change the world, and I say this is a gay dude.

wolfman (Dec 3, 2016 - 10:31 pm)

Well, you'll be graduating with little debt, so that's something. If you are attending CUNY, I assume your other choices were similarly (or somewhat higher) ranked schools? Or even substantially higher ranked ones, but still outside T14? In that case, you made the the right decision: "selling your soul to corporate" wouldn't have been an option coming out of any of these schools any more than playing hockey in the NHL would have been.

Most grads in your peer group will be unemployed or in doc review, and the lucky minority will be working in small-time insurance defense, PI, WC, immigration, family and criminal shops, or trying for ADA/PD/agency attorney positions (which are hard to get in NYC). So will you, I assume, but you'll owe less money. What do you want to do for a living after you get out?

It must be supremely annoying to go to school with shrill SJWs, but humor them, they don't have much else going on in their lives - and this goes double if not triple for SJW lawyers.

I wanted to keep my student debt to a minimum so I went to CUNY. I want to do gov't work (honestly, any kind is fine) but, I do prefer working for the DA's office.

I think I'm just going to have to ignore the 90% of the student body that hates my existence. But yes, I suppose humor them.

Hahaha, you think SJW lawyers even have time for petty nonsense?

tedandlisa123 (Dec 4, 2016 - 1:25 pm)

Hate to say this, but you have to go along with them. Couldn't think of a more militant SJW breeding ground than a public interest law school in the middle of NYC. As a white male, I would study up on the latest lexicon of SJW trigger words and do my best to avoid them. Humor them, while you keep your head down and obtain your debt free degree. Stir the nest, even just a little, and they can destroy you in more ways than you can know. As for being a DA, I would say you are interested in fixing the system of hands up don't shoot from the inside out. It's not necessarily the students you have to worry about, but the professors and administrators.

Did OP even visit the website before applying? Even the color coordination is screaming that it might not be some people's cup of tea.

OTOH, disagree with CUNY/SJWs all you want, but at the very least this school is backing up its stated goal of graduating "socially responsible" lawyers with a reasonably affordable tuition... many schools use the same rhetoric while graduating debt-slaves. Just a thought.

I went on a tour of the school and did look up its rankings, tuition, affordability, and whatnot.

I knew that it was a "public interest" school and I had some previous experience in government work so, I thought it would be a nice fit. I have friends that went to other CUNY grad programs and they overall liked the programs. I did expect the crowd to be generally progressive/socialist/liberal but, I didn't think it would be on the extreme end.

Though, if I went to school over at Brigham Young in the middle of hicksville, I certainly would have expected mormons lol.

I enjoyed this post. 5 years ago (nearly to the day), I made my first ever post on this forum, and it was almost identical to yours.

Long story short, I attended CUNY for the same reasons you chose it, and I hated CUNY for the same reasons you do. I transferred out to a much more expensive T2 school. I graduated with a lot more debt than I would have from CUNY, but I was able to get a corporate job that pays a lot more than just about any job anyone from CUNY could land. My debt is almost paid off, and I actually enjoyed the last couple years of law school. Also, I don't have to work with insufferable SJWs, and I can imagine that most jobs that are possible to get out of CUNY would involve working with those types of people.

Bottom line, I'd transfer if you hate it.

If only I wasn't halfway through my 2L, I would have definitely transferred. If I could have foreseen how terrible everything is, I would have slapped my past self in the face for trying to stick it out. I think I had some sort of strange residual hope that people would calm down over the summer but, I can see now how misguided that was...

To be honest, I'm pretty jealous of your position right now!

It might not be too late to transfer if you really want to. I remember certain schools (Rutgers comes to mind, and I think there are others) that will take 1.5 years of credits.

That being said, if you do stick it out, I think a few of my classmates there ended up working in the DA's office/other law enforcement, so that might be a good path if you're not into the "saving the world" orgs.

Does CUNY even do the Socratic Method any more? Wonder if they can handle having leading questions shot at them.... Socratics against SJWs is funny as hell, as demonstrated by the proliferation of Youtube Rekt SJW compilations.

You don't have to be a mad dog about it, but you should at least occasionally send a few off the handle. For their own good.

Cuny law! Ha! I remember speaking with a few students from cuny law just a few months ago at some ABA event. These kids wanted to do prison abolition work. They don't believe that anyone--I mean anyone! Should be imprisoned. I asked one of the girls what if someone is a serial child molester, violent murderer, etc etc but they would not break down. They stood firm. I think their parting words were something like anyone who works for the DA is the true evil in society blah blah. Lol

So, good luck, TS!

Otoh, graduating from cuny law as a level headed, normal/non-hysterical atty makes you a rarity. You might get a lot of job offers just from being normal.

They also had a solution to eliminate rape: since rape is about power if you get rid of capitalism then you get rid of power imbalance and the desire to rape.

Wow. I am fairly liberal, but there are people on the extreme left that seem like such idiots. I believe we do over-incarcerate in this country, but there are a lot of people who deserve to be in jail. Do these future attorneys really believe that rape would stop in the absence of capitalism, or that asking child rapists to consider the impact of their actions will stop them from re-offending?

These are the same people who get outraged when there's a TV special teaching women self defense or when it is suggested that it might not be in a young woman's best interest to spend the night at a stranger's house when visiting a foreign country. Or that it just may be a bad idea to get blind, falling down drunk at frat parties. Because men should be taught not to rape, and, apparently, women don't have to be taught anything at all, or, for that matter, exercise the slightest bit of good judgement.

Suck it up, OP. You're saving $$.

CUNY Law does have a federalist society, so you can't be completely alone and could join that. Or you could do what many law students do, which is to simply do the work and keep your head down. This isn't undergrad and you're not there to make friends. You're there to get a credential that allows you to sit for the bar exam. Sit through the classes, speak only when called upon and even then, say only what the prof wants to hear. Same goes come exam time: Tell 'em what they want to hear.

Don't start any drama. You don't want anything on your record for C&F.
