It's what happens when mentally ill people who are a danger to themselves or the community have guns. Don't think it's your religious overture. That's just silly. Everyone thinks the Bible has applied to their day and age for millennia not realizing it is all written to propagate to certain classes or groups of people to grow the flock (religious studies scholar). Lot of crazy people are in Florida. Way of the world man. How bout that Europe with all their terrorism?

Revoking someone's 2nd Amendment rights can not be done easily for a reason. TDOs (Temporary Detention Orders...in Virginia) cause this to happen, but the hearing officer needs enough evidence to justify holding someone for 72 hours for psychiatric observation. If the case can't be made, it doesn't happen. If someone wants to volunteer to a TDO, they are to have the terms explained to them...that it will cost them their right to own a firearm until (if ever) they get their rights reinstated.

Even then, it won't stop a person from getting a firearm illegally.

You pretty much have to live in a gated community and send your kids to private schools if you are in South Florida. There is still some nice, quiet towns in the North however, like Destin.

Recently, I visited some friends who live in South Florida. These are married couples with young kids and they live in Weston and Cooper City. Obviously, these are not areas known for their night life, but seemed pretty safe/nice to me, and my friends said the public schools are decent too. I did notice that the home values in these areas were relatively high compared to other areas in Broward County.

Born and raised in South Florida, it's turned into the 3rd world hell hole. Lived there until 2005 and got the heck out. I hated South Florida, for those that say the weather is great, only if you like 3 seasons, hot, hotter and hottest. Rains everyday, humidity like a mother and rude Latins creeping in from all over. Lived in Davie, which sits between Cooper City and Weston.

There are still parts of Florida that are nice, but many places just don't have the jobs to support a decent living. Items like property taxes, fuel, home owners insurance are through the roof. Car Insurance is outrageous due to such severe fraud. Salaries are not the best and competition for jobs from latin americans/cuban in pretty intense. I honestly don't know how half the people down there make a living. I don't recommend any Anglos move there unless they know fluent spanish.

If I had to choose between California and Florida, I'd brave the incredibly high cost of living and move to a decent area of california. At least people believe in things there and aren't as selfish.

It attracts a wide myriad of people in a way that somewhere like Nebraska doesn't. Seriously, most people go down there to start life over again and because it has a relatively low cost of living. I would never want to raise a family in Florida: the schools mostly suck, there is no job security, and there is not a strong professional middle class. It's great if you're single and want to enjoy the singles life and work in the service industry in a warm climate for a few years.

Still, if I could get a good job and a nice house she would get on board. All she wants is a nice house.

There are many parts of Florida that I enjoy visiting for a few days. Miami, Orlando, PCB, even Jacksonville. Live there? Hell to the no.

Exception: I could live in the Keys. It's more like the Caribbean than the USA down there. Legal market probably sucks though.

At least until e-lawyers become more of a thing and Florida adopts the UBE.

I've lived in Miami for a while and I love it. The weather is unbelievable, the people do tend towards selfishness and shallowness, but the natural environment is beautiful. It's also gotten very gentrified over the past several years, with the good and the bad that comes with it.

If I had no financial restrictions I would definitely want to live in the Keys. Caribbean lifestyle plus first world amenities.

The Keys will be the place I visit when I go there next time. I here that it is great. My bro says St Augustine is nice at night.
