Okay. So just got an offer for an entry-level attorney position in a city agency. I know the approx starting salary. I'm curious about how this projects into the coming yeara. Anyone able to shed some light?

NYC union contract includes "RIP" (recurring incremental payments) which is basically a guarantee raise. I believe it's a couple hundred every year and max out at 10K (or a little less). Outside of that you have three options for a raise:

1) new union contract and any increase in pay negotiated.

2) merit increase. Depends on the agency. Some give merit increases all the time and others never do.

3) pay increase due to increased agency level.

OP - as a new employee of NYC myself - you should have received an official signed original offer letter with your starting salary and start date. Was salary not discussed in your final interview?

We haggled a tiny bit during my interview - and the oral offer thereafter was followed with the written offer and salary.
