If so in what areas: courtroom, office, with other lawyers and staff. Let’s say you are not stupid witty meaning you do not crack politically incorrect jokes at the office if you are in a PC office. Does it do anything other than gell/smooth over relationships?

Wit and charisma will get you clients. Without those two qualities - especially charisma - being a grinder is the best a lawyer can hope for.

Having a decent set of interpersonal skills is helpful in any position that interacts with other people.
So many people hide behind the label of introvert but in all actuality, it's just lack of effort.

You can really get ahead with court staffers.
I knew an attorney who really treated people he worked with, even his clients like crap.
But when he needed to get something from a judge, he would always suck up to the court workers, as in My goodness Mrs Smith you look so beautiful in that blue dress today. He also brought candy. One time I was there with him and said to "Mrs Smith" something like at least he is nice to you. She got it that he was rude to everyone but court staffers.

Just personally I hate people who are rude to cleaning staff and wait people.
