Student loan companies lie...this should not be news. The only lender doing ICR/IBR is the US Department of Education. Most everyone else offers a repayment plan that SOUNDS like the same thing, but it’s not.

If your relying on PSLF or any other such program...double check everything and confirm your progress at least every two years.

Keep in mind that at that point, PSLF was brand new and the feds weren’t actually issuing the loans at that point, which made it more confusing. ALL federal lenders do IBR, that’s completely separate from PSLF and has nothing to do with your loans being forgiven. You can theoretically do IBR and not do PSLF or other loan forgiveness programs because you don’t want to consolidate.

Just more vindication of my strategy to pay as little as possible under IBR until forgiveness and the tax bomb. Any discretionary income I have is not going into a paper money black hole.
