Will hit my firm’s minimum (2000 hours) by the end of this week. Going to try to run it up and maximize the bonus.

If you're debating whether to go to law school, this lame thread is the kind of thing you will think about a lot as a lawyer.

I hit my billables one year in October then got yelled at when I didn't keep coming in every Saturday and wanted to take off Thanksgiving (the actual day) because I wasn't "committed" enough. I quit.

These threads sum up why I wouldn't have lasted even 6 months in biglaw if given the chance. My firm's unofficial guide post is far below 2,000. I can't comprehend billing that amount by November much less in 12 months.

Assuming no billing fraud, good for you guys. But to any prospective law student out there, think long and hard if you want to work 2,000 billable hours a year for maybe but not necessarily good money.

To be fair, some areas of law are harder to bill in than others. I'm in IP and 2000 hours for me is doing very well. 2000 for my friend in insurance def is the bare minimum.

Mine ended 10/31. Hit my requirement 10/29. My firm does not reward billing above and beyond the quota. Bonuses are determined by two questions: (1) did you hit the 1800 hour quota? If yes, then (2) where do you rank in the extremely unclear popularity contest.

Excited for reviews and bonus information to start. And once I hit my billables, I stopped putting in entries for October and held them all for November...And now the slow road to 1800 has once again begun.

For those 2000+ quotas, I don't know how you do it.

2000 is pretty easy. My first firm had a 2350 minimum. That was awful. Just awful. So by comparison, only having to hit 2000 is nothing. I’ll probably come close to 2300 this year anyway, but there should be a pretty good bonus associated with that.

What kind of law requires 2350 minimum hours? I think our highest billing attorney was around 2300 last year.

Really anything over 2100 is maddening. I have 2000 right now and its fine but not great. I had 1900 a few years back and the extra 100 hours really do seem like a big grind.

This makes so happy to not have any official quota. People aren't making money hand over fist, but I will take the work/life balance.
