Taxing of College Endowments

I read this morning that the Republican tax bill passed by the Senate last night will tax endowments of colleges and universities. I think it's only a modest tax of about 1.4%, but currently endowments are not taxed.

If this does become law, it will be interesting to see what universities will do -- aside from raising tuition that is.

And, relevant to us here, will this in any way affect law schools?

The endowments will incorporate in the Cayman Islands and move their money there...just like the hedge funds have done for years. Most of the big $ endowments are basically hedge funds anyway so business as usual.
