I’ve been practicing since 2013. I just begun to realize the bad habits I have. Some were formed by who I am as a person, others by the area of law I have been in: workers’ comp, personal injury and now insurance defense. Basically all high volume work. I would not want to do any other work.

My bad habits are being somewhat sloppy and rushing to get things done on time. I don’t like to pay attention to details: I’d be horrible in BigLaw and wash out as soon as they could fire me. I hate doing any real research and writing, meaning writing a motion from scratch with facts like an MSJ. Not copy and paste motions to compel or set aside defaults.

What do I like to do? Take depositions, show up to Superior Court and try cases. Basically stuff that lets me put on a suit and feel like a lawyer.

What can I do? Show up to Court at 8:30 a.m. or way before and be confident in front of judges and opposing counsel. I’m nice and polite but I know my simple cases.

There are times I feel like a poser. Though let’s get real other than running my own mill, working this job or an 8-5 government job I couldn’t do any other legal job for long.

What are your “bad habits?”

LOL I am just like you. I have only worked in an area that deals high volume. I also enjoy doing that kind of work. I dont really feel the need to be a "real lawyer" either. The attention to detail required in real lawyering would drive me crazy.
