So, ten (or so) years after graduating from one of the absolute lowest ranked law schools in the country, having started out doing low-end ID Defense for 50k a year, I can now say that I’m a partner at an actual mid-sized law firm. For the first time since the end of my 1L year - I couldn’t possibly care less that I graduated from a bottom ranked law school. I think I’ll embrace it actually. Because who cares at this point?

I went to a garbage school, and have a good job, I don't think too hard about it.

congrats! how did you do it? And how does partnership at smaller/mid size firms work? Do you have to pay (buy) your stake into the partnership? and how is that paid off? on an installment basis? And how much did your income rise from (senior associate vs. new partner)?

What's your compensation and minimum billables? Or are you an equity partner?

Thanks all. I’m not going to lie. I’m extremely excited.

I won’t know for a few weeks about dollar for dollar compensation. Expecting a pretty nice bump though (from what I’ve heard from others).

How did I do it? I worked like a nut job for 10 years lol. Probably have never billed less than 2200 hours a year. I Jumped around a few times - from better firm to better firm. Worked my way into a few well paying practice areas. Most importantly - started developing my own book of business a few years back (that’s really the key).
