Hello again, I submitted my application for the July bar. Now, I am just trying to decide which bar prep to take. I may get adaptibar too to supplement the bar prep course I take. Although I have considered just using adaptibar then trying to study for the other parts of the exam through other materials but this also seems tedious. Maybe its better to just have all in one.

Anyway, I am considering Themis or Kaplan. I know some people who passed UBE with Themis. I also used them for the MPRE and I felt it worked well. However, one of my friends is a rep for Kaplan and he can get me $100 off of Themis' lowest price. At the same time, I used Kaplan for LSAT and I didn't think it was that great. Kaplan seems more like they built their rep around ACTs and such.

P.S. Don't tell me Barbri. I just do not have that kind of money to throw away. My father will give me about $1500 when his pension check comes. That should be enough for either Themis or Kaplan with my discount. One more thing, what do ya'll think about Barmax? I think it seems like a scam.

I used Barbri, but having said that I have seen a lot of recommendations of Themis on here so would go with them.

Used Kaplan. Other than their 'on-site' stuff being a total BS unless you live in NY or something, it was reasonable in terms of workload and such. I would supplement their material with the actual questions from the Bar, however, as their MBE questions aren't really like the actual questions and their software contains a few typos.

However, from what I saw, anyone who put in the requisite hours and studied with a purpose passed the bar. Even my friends who used barmax or some other thing that cost them $500. So I would go with the cheaper option, and see if you can get discounts for going into public service (even if you are not really thinking about it, who knows where you'll end up). Also, no matter what course you take, if you don't study, you will fail.

Depends on if you retained anything from law school. I studied about a week and did very well at least on the mbe portion

If you don’t like live classes BarMax is actually not that bad. They have outlines and audio lessons, along with 1700 past MBE questions that you can do by subject. It keeps a running tally of what areas you are weak in. The BarMax questions are the same questions that Themis, Emanuel, and Pieper uses (ie they are past exam questions).
It’s $399 if you’re in public service. If you get that you’ll also need an MEE outline that you can probably get for less than $100 online.

Themis worked fine. I would take whichever offers the best deal. They all do the trick. Personally, I needed the structure to get the studying done, but ymmv. Some people can use last year's materials w/o issue and basically study for free.

I used Themis successfully and chose it because it was the cheapest of the structured programs. I felt I needed the structure to make sure I was on track when studying.

I would just choose the cheapest one that offers a program specific to your jx.

I used Themis while working full-time and passed on the first try with no problem.
