Anyone had experience finding a job in Montreal? I know the NCA/Bar procedures are extremely difficult, so I was wondering if anyone had (or knows of someone) who has had success finding a law-related or JD type job up there.

Merci.

Yeah my friend who went to Cooley who failed the California bar 4 times went and practiced law in Montreal. It couldn't be that tough if a Cooley grad could get by.

Your friend did not practice law in Montreal. In order to get admitted to practice law in Quebec, one needs to either 1) have a civil (French based) law degree or 2) already be admitted in NY (Quebec has reciprocity with NY), pass a French language exam, AND pass the Quebec examine du barreau.

Your French needs to be highly fluent, and you also need to be very familiar with Québécois, which is significantly different. Even then, it's not exactly booming. Montreal is one of my favorite cities, but I wouldn't go there looking for work, especially as an American without strong local connections.
