Why would you accept an unsolicited LinkedIn connection? Yo bittersweet03/06/18

Lately, people are sending me linkedin invites either attached with an ad or, once I accept, follow up with a linkedin message containing a sales pitch. Many of those are lawyers who are looking for referrals or people with businesses that target lawyers.

It is definitely a good idea to use social media to promote your business. However, it is not good to look cheap while using social media. I am most likely not going to need a divorce lawyer in Ireland. If I do, I am probably not going to use someone who comes off as cheap trying to promote his sleazy divorce outfit.

Do not promote your firm by posting a sign outside a restaurant because it makes you look cheap. Unless you are fighting traffic tickets looking to do high volume and will take $10 cases.

None of them care what you think because they aren’t marketing towards you. You just happened to be in the crossfire of their mass marketing machine gun.

Why would you accept an unsolicited LinkedIn connection? You have no idea how reputable or shady that person is. Would you like to be associated with someone who had been disbarred?

Yeah, it's good to have connections. But you don't want to connect just just anyone.
