Now I've always been a nerd. So I went to law school because I actually thought law was interesting. Naive maybe, but it's worked out. I like what I do day to day, and the money ain't bad. So other than me, who's out there?

In house counsel, health care, holy sh*t, over ten years out now. ERISA, HIPAA, that kind of thing, Fortune 50 but mostly work from home due to acquisition.

I do all regulatory, transactional, and litigation work for the healthcare industry. That could range from providing HIPAA/HITECH, Medicaid, stark, anti kickback advice for a hospital to responding to a Medicaid audit for a government contractor to reviewing and litigating a restrictive covenant for a physician to helping a physical therapist set up a practice.

Yeah, pretty similar on my end. Highly varied body of work, always representing providers and practices. Also do medical professional discipline.

Also the /dome stalkerazzi have undoubtedly already figured out who I am and outed me in their mentally ill chat, so its not a big deal.

I enjoy criminal law. There is something exciting about making opening/closing arguments and cross-examining witnesses. I also enjoy arguing motions and State supreme court briefs. Though I could pass on the drafting of those said briefs.

I really like my job. I'm in-house counsel (IP) at a Global Fortune company.

With that said, I really didn't enjoy law school or firm life at all; in fact, I really despised both. I graduated at the height of the crises, worked in a firm, and, after 4 miserable years, got the heck out. The ultimate goal was always to go in-house (during law school I interned at BigCo, as well as a firm - though not simultaneously). In hindsight, the journey through misery was well worth it for me.

I did somewhat enjoy law school, but I didn't go until later in life. So it was actually a nice break from my 30's to sit around and learn for a few years. Spent a few months in law firms on short term assignments though and would not have been happy at all had I stayed. I'm not cutthroat enough, and I sincerely hate wearing a tie. I had lucky timing though, I graduated in 2006 so there were still jobs.

I worked for a state agency doing admin litigation for almost 7 years and generally liked the work. It was interesting and I got to handle cases up through the appeals. There were always new/novel issues to research and I had good coworkers. However, my department head was a bit of a tyrant and when my immediate supervisor transferred units, I had to leave ASAP.

Public co GC. generally like the gig and the comp is nice for the hours I put in. excellent travel as well. Have to deal with some tool executives and office bs, but not too bad. Its certainly better than my last non-GC in house gig and miles above my time in biglaw.

I like it. I'm in-house at a large private company and my role is to negotiate contracts all day. It pays OK for the amount of work I do, and the occasional work from home is nice too. Are there career paths I would have liked equally as much or maybe more? I'm sure.

I generally enjoy litigation. I hated the pressure for client development, community involvement (boards, etc. in hopes of getting clients), and, of course, the billable hour.

I switched to plaintiff work this week. Way too early to tell much about whether I still enjoy litigating and whether it was a good move. So far so good. I can definitely say that after not tracking my time for a week, I REALLY enjoy that aspect.

While I went to a T4 LS, I'm at a great plaintiff firm that handles huge PI cases. In the long run I think it will pay off/ work out.

My wife loves her job. And it qualifies for PSLF, so I think she'll be happy long term as well.

There are plenty of days where I hate what I do though. But I think that's true for every profession out there.

Congrats on the move. I really hope this works out for you the way it worked out for me. It was the best decision I ever made. Feels weird not billing hours, right? It took me a while to get over that feeling. Not a bad feeling, more like a, "This doesn't feel right. Shouldn't I be documenting this...."

I didn't enjoy LS at all, although some of the material was admittedly interesting. I like being a lawyer now (the trials are a huge rush/challenge) but that's only been true for a decade since I found the area of practice that is, I guess, my calling.

It only took me 19 years from getting my JD to find something in the profession I could tolerate ...

DA at a major Office here--I definitely enjoy the law and work. I hold a senior position so do litigation, supervision, and training. The only other pathway I considered was JAG, however, I wasn't wanting to periodically locate so did not pursue Active Duty. I decided to apply for the Reserves (which I documented my journey on another thread) and got accepted, passed everything, except for my final vision waiver which got denied.
I always find it interesting on here that rarely does an attorney on here find Biglaw a happy destination--I actually enjoy government law, and when you couple benefits with a pretty good salary and hours it can be a great career path.

I do almost exclusively federal litigation. I truly do like being a lawyer. I have challenging and intellectually stimulating cases. And I am making money. Hard to complain about that.

Like all things, there are days when I hate my job--mostly because of horrible defense counsel. But I usually get the last laugh when they have to cut me a check at the end of the litigation.
