3rd year associate at a biglaw firm in NY doing equipment/aviation finance...I want to lateral or maybe go in house in California. I’m getting tired of NY and want to go back home.

I graduated ND with a 3.3X and worried my medium gpa won’t look good as a 3rd year (couldn’t get a job if I was still in law school with a 3.3).

Anyone with any advice? Should I wait longer for my gpa to be further behind?

Don’t see the question. Are you thinking of moving without finding a job first? Unless you are thinking of doing that, you should probably start looking now and let the market decide exactly how long you have to wait to leave your gpa behind.

Once you have some substantive experience does anyone really care about your GPA?

GPA doesn't matter beyond your 1st job. The quality of your experience will carry the day.

Obviously substantive experience is the most important part, but GPA and school can be a bonus.

Biglaw is a different matter. While experience is the most important part, I think grades matter a lot more for biglaw, even for lateral hiring.
