They don't have a website, which is the weird part. There are a handful of people on LinkedIn who work there, but the only review-type info I found is from 2001- maybe the partners have mellowed since then?:

----
What a mistake! Do not accept a position with this firm! A bunch of bottom feeders that target recent grads with promise of good experience in exchange for lousy pay and hours (9 to at least 930 Mon through Thurs and 9 to at least 7 on Friday). I was there eight months and saw at least a dozen associates and about 17 secretaries walk in and out. Most lasted only a day or two or maybe a week before they quit or got canned. Mandatory 7 billable hours on the weekends whether the work needs to get done or not. Also, 4 billables on holidays such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. The partners are unconscionable without an ounce of humanity. They tell associates to take work with them to funerals and hospital visits. Virtually no client contact. Excessive revisions on documents that are meaningless. Lots of yelling and screaming from infantile and napoleonic senior partner. Only upside, good corporate and securities drafting experience. Caveat emptor.

Ahh Mintz Faade...I interviewed there about a year ago. I see their ad on craigslist and Brooklyn Law Schools job board every couple weeks. I don't know how terrible a work environment would have to be for a place to continue to have turnover ITE. No one in their right mind would ever quit...even if their job entailed being tortured all day... I worked at a small firm in midtown- the person I replaced was there a week, and the only other associate in the office had been there two weeks. The guy who ran the place basically inherited daddy's practice...he was bipolar and psychotic- screamed at us for not working hard enough (i never spent fewer than 14 hours a day there.) In any case...even there i held on until i was fired...and i would have stuck it out for years knowing how bad things are out there.

currently i work for minimum wage...no joke. If they make you an offer at Mintz take it and hold on for dear life- i don't care how bad it is and you shouldn't either. having a law degree/license is worse than having no degree- it's a scarlet letter of shame that will follow you to the grave.

So even if they are demanding its for your own good and as long as you work hard and don't start trouble they will go to bat for you and give you every opportunity to learn everything you need for a great career. You would be lucky to be given a shot.

How many girls has he gone through and will continue to abuse and sexually harass before someone opens their mouth to put that asshole behind bars where he belongs? His poor wife sits by and doesn't realize what that asshole is doing. Where HER money is going. Don't think that you are the first one to spit in his soda or the last. I am sure you are not. You should hold your tongue unless you know the whole story! And keep the names of innocent people out of your mouth and posts before you get sued. You probably lasted all of a week but had a sugar daddy or your mommy taking care of you before you walked or were told to leave because you didn't fold his jacket correctly or place his ice cubes in the glass the way he liked!

Fuckedup-

I would still apply if you don't have many options. They actually do decent securities and corporate law work. It is very hard to get a transactional law position.

If you look on linkedin, a lot of associates who start there eventually move on to better firms after 2 years.

One thing that I found was that most jobs that are available, have something wrong with the jobs... ie long hours, asshole coworkers/bosses... The only exceptions are if the position is new or if someone left due to personal reasons. My guess is that those situations probably make up 25-35% of the jobs out there. Why would anyone leave a perfectly good situation for "no good reason."

Reply Like (0)
fuckup (Mar 27, 2014 - 2:12 pm)

True - what you do is investigate using linkedin where previous associates have ended up. I didn't apply to the ad because I wouldn't say I'm desperate and I have no real experience in that area of law anyway.

I worked there. Won't say when but I will say everything people have said about Mr. Mintz is spot on. He was horrendous. He yelled at and berated people for no reason, Associates and others alike. Some of the "clients" (not all) who frequented the office were shady and gave me the creeps. That being said, it was not all bad. Some of the other tenants and office staff were ok and not bad to work with. Mr. Fraade did not scream and yell at people, that I heard anyway. Had Mr. Mintz not been such a hard person to work for it might not have been such a bad place to work, but he was. Beware, is all I can say.

1. Mintz is short and he yells and screams at associates and staff. He also belittles people who work at the firm including attorneys and staff. 2. Fraade is an extremely cheap person and of average ability. He says that the reason attorneys must work after hours is because if he kept staff/clerical people after hours he would have to pay them over time. 3. I was told that the firm was sued and lost a malpractice case and as a result do not have malpractice insurance (not certain if this is true-but if you interview with them ask if they have malpractice insurance. 4. Because they have such a difficult time hiring attorneys, they have hired out of town lawyers, who move to NY at their own cost and then quit or get fired and are out their relocation expenses and their careers are harmed. Read the posts-most are on point. Avoid the place like the plague.

frozen (Dec 16, 2014 - 10:11 am)

Interviewees beware. Very hostile, unprofessional less than amicable environment. Horrible pay, no benefits long hours and weekend work as a chore. No vacation days at all the first year of work.

Mintz belittles and yells at associates and staff. He tells people he is the CEO (even though its of himself and Fraade) to make himself feel like he's the boss. His handwriting, completely illegible. Mintz himself can't read it. Mintz doesn't know how to operate a computer or how to use email. Everything is very outdated. Associates have to underline their changes in red ink as opposed to doing it electronically on the computer. Mintz makes people bring him his lunch and clean his dirty glasses from which he has drank.

Fraade always throws others under the bus and will never take the blame in front of Mintz even when he's clearly wrong. His office has PILES of papers. I wouldn't be surprised if a rodent lived somewhere in his office or even a whole family of rodents. His keyboard is very dusty and looks like it hasnt been used in 20 years even though it's being used everyday. Passive aggressive and does not and cannot do anything without Mintz' prior approval even if its sending a few sentence email from himself.

Even recruiting agencies do not want post this firm's listings on their websites because there is a 200-300% turnover rate.

Mr Mintz..

I worked for you very very recently, for only one day. I remember that morning . I was so excited for my first day. I was suppose to be there around 9:30 am and I got there at 9 am .. You weren't there yet so I took advanatge of the time . I asked questions, took notes , reviewed some instructions that was typed up and really did my best to to get things going and settled in. I felt ready. Suddenly .. he walks in and straight up to my desk and said ( now I don't remmeber) but you were so unbelievably rude! Didn't say anything to me ,, just started talking to me like I've been working there for years .. ( My first day!!!) Maybe it was a tactic, a strategy I'm not sure, but even so, it doesnt make it right and definitely isn't right for me. I brought you your coats with the stupid #1 #2 and #3s on them , your pointless pretzels , your water with 3 stupid ice cubes in it , your tea!!! And I stayed at the office even after you left! I almost forgot ... When you say bye it was almost as if you have to force that out!!

You probably wake up in the morning and prepare yourself to become a complete ______and that's fine, if that's who you are .. Forget it.. You're a a**.. discouraging people . ( DMN shame )

Best of Luck to your sanity 😂😂😂

I worked with M&F for over 4 years and I have to say it was the worst place in the entire world. People say you have to pay your dues and shut your mouth and do you job, but there is no reason to be sexually harrassed, berated, and constantly verbally abused on a daily basis. The partners were horrible and treated you like a POS, the associates had to work over 14 hours a day and on the weekends, and the clerical positions were always needed to be filled or replaced or covered. I woke up every morning dreading going to work and hoping that we would have another snow storm and that the trains wouldnt work just so I can stay at home.

I recently celebrated my three year anniversary at the firm I am currently working at and I couldn't be any happier. The partners treat you with respect and like a human being and on top of all that they are genuine mentors and take the time to teach you and answer any questions you have. After being at my firm, I will NEVER EVER in my entire life go to a job, regardless of how much they pay, and be subjected to such horrors ever again. Life is stressful as it is. There is no reason why we have to hate what we do and who we work for.
