Law Forum Rules

What are the rules?

What is this forum for? What is considered on-topic discussion?
This is a forum to discuss issues pertaining to the legal profession. The following are on-topic discussions: Look at the list of categories in the left under the heading "Archives". Take your cue from that. Those are all valid topics to be discussed here.

Examples of posts that do not answer the question asked by the person that started the thread
Here is a non-exhaustive list: If you want to get on the soap box about what an evil place law land is, create your own thread and have at it. Don't ruin other threads.

Examples of posts that inhibit discussion
These types of posts are especially a problem with posters that have been around for a while. Due to their tenure, they feel they can bully new posters. Here is a non-exhaustive list:

What happens if I flout these rules?
If you do not follow these rules you will be banned and your posts will be deleted.

Will you provide a warning before you ban me?
I will not provide any warning. It is not my job to baby-sit you or assuage your ego. I don't have the time to explain to you what you did wrong. And then get into long winded arguments with you. So err on the side of caution. Be nice. Be polite. It's not that hard.

I don't agree with these rules. They are arbitrary. They are ruining this forum.
Then Leave. You don't want to be part of a ruined forum! So GTFO.

But but but... I miss the Ye Ol Wild West JDU. I want to be insulted and abused! That is what makes it fun!
A masochist eh? Well you still have the option to post your query in the Off Topic section. The same people read both forums. The rules are a bit more permissive there.

What happens to posts that violate these rules?
They will be deleted. It takes me some time to get around to the cleanup. But they will all be deleted.

Your rules violate the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution! What about free speech? You can't censor a public forum!
This is a private forum.

I see someone routinely disobeying these rules. Someone is being rude to me.
Please report them to me immediately, Email me at [email protected] If they are indeed violating the rules, they will be banned.
