US News and World Report has some red flags to look for when applying to law school: https://www.usnews.com/education/blogs/law-admissions-lowdown/articles/2018-11-26/how-to-spot-the-red-flags-in-lower-ranked-law-schools. It’s not bad but doesn’t go far enough to warn just how fubar one will be if they go to one of these dumpster fires, especially while taking out 5 to 6 figure debt. It was nice to see Hofstra knocked for its exorbitant tuition v. ranking. Ha, ha!

Haha. Imagine if cost of tuition was a major factor in the methodology? Within a year most schools would provide no data.

This article is offensive. US news is one of the biggest perpetrators of the scam out there. Sure their top over all law schools can be informative, but they pump meaningless rankings that perpetuate the scam. My go to example is Vermont Law school. Ranked 133, but number 1 in environmental law. It was posted on here not too long ago that the school just revoked tenure from a lot of professors (not sure if that will actually make them go up in rankings or not), so it's clear the school is in trouble. Yet they are ranked number 1 in something.

I can see someone, who doesnt know any better, get an accepted at sticker price at UT-Austin or the university of Minnesota and a 75% scholarship at Vermont law school thinking, "well I really want to be an environmental lawyer, and the other schools are also outside the Top 14, so Vermont Law school is probably the better option, they are ranked number 1 in what I'm interested in doing."

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure people from Vermont know much more about environmental law than a person from Yale at the time of graduation, but if they can't get a job practicing environmental law, what is the point?

Do 0L’s still obsess over minute fluctuations in these rankings? I remember when a school moving from 89 to 83 was perceived as a big deal when in reality, it’s like having someone $hart in your face instead of poo.
