NYC Family Law procedural question

Do you use the pre printed court forms or do you take the in waka11/28/18

Do you use the pre printed court forms or do you take the info and create your own petition template?
Forms look simple enough but also trying to avoid the “I could have done that myself” look from the client. Thanks

Not in NY, but that is *exactly* what happens in my jdx, i.e. the lawyers take the templates from the self-help center and reproduce them on their own paper filings. The "I could have done that myself" thing is very real. I don't think any of the divorce lawyers in my town will actually use the self-help forms, even though what's on the filings is exactly the same and was almost certainly drawn up to match them. There's no actual strategic reason for such copying, it's all about image and billing time.

I also suspect a lot of people do it to increase their drafting time and thus the hours they can bill. I have literally seen discovery requests that mirror, word-for-word, stuff that is already required to be exchanged under an automatic disclosure rule in my state.
