Quite a few states actually set fees at a percentage

In Texas, there's not all that much to it. $10,000 ought to easily get it done, unless there are some kinks. What on earth do you have to do in a probate to run up a fee of $100,000?

Last year I was hired to be the personal representative on a probate. That clocks up real fast, got to about 50 or 60 hours on a million dollar estate. Just multiply that by your typical rate.

I’ve done ancillary probates in other states where attorney and PR fees are set by statute as a fixed percentage, and those fees can be sky-high.

Here it’s hourly, but I saw a court case from 2 years ago that said if there’s no litigation/contests, approximately 1.5% of the estate is a reasonable legal fee.

It really depends on the people - if they keep bugging you, or instigate long chats, that adds up a lot
