Hey Guys,

Wanted to reach out to the small law firm folks.

Do any of you guys use sales funnels on your website? By sales funnel, I mean a system on your website that collects data (insert your email and name here) and systematically takes your prospects to some sort of buying decision. The follow up could be a series of landing pages or emails.

What practice areas would find systems like that useful? I am guessing areas like family law or P.I would be more likely to utilize funnels... then say immigration.

Let me know.

I don't. Nothing is that simplistic in my practice. People need to come in for a paid consultation, and sometimes the attitude they have talking to my assistant lets us know immediately that we don't want the person coming in. It's not like I'm selling food or housewares.

i'm a lawyer, not a document production facility. When you're doing that, you're not practicing law. I have ethical concerns about anyone who operates in such a fashion.

But to answer the question that was asked, that type of system is good for high volume, low value matters with minimal variation. Simple insert the blank stuff. But you're competing on lowest price, competing with legalzoom and rocketlawyer.
Personally, I prefer low volume high price, where every client feels like they're receiving customized solutions.

Thanks guys.

Dont you think its would be useful if the sales funnel directed your customer to a PAID consultation?

Furthermore, if you had a system that automatically follows up with leads, wouldn't that INCREASE the chances of good/high paying clients walking through your door? if not, how come?

you're talking about two separate things (though they are often integrated)

I've seen systems that will grab a potential prospect's attention, asks the prospect questions, and then uses that information to pre-fill documents that the client signs. That I have strong objections against.

I've also seen systems that get a potential prospect's contact information, and through constant contact (news articles, email blasts, scheduled phone calls, etc.) slowly convinces the prospect to come in for a consult (and hopefully become a paying client).
This is perfectly fine. Many businesses use it in some form or another, including many law firms.

But it's worth noting that the process has to work with the clientele, and the wrong process can do more harm than good. For example, if your target audience is moderately affluent professional 20-somethings, having an all-digital platform makes total sense. But if your target audience is elderly and unsophisticated, an all-digital platform is completely useless.

This would only be useful to high volume practices that lawyers call "mills." The work done in mills is more than anything filling out forms. What you are suggesting would make good/high paying clients run for the hills.

Yes a system that follows up with leads can surely work. "Enter email to sign up for our immigration blog" or some crap is a good way to get your name in front of potential clients. If you are really committed to the idea, there's stuff like Constant Contact to send pretty emails and urge decision making.
