Yeah, this is cute and all, but...no way in hell my daughter is going to law school. Dad’s cautionary tale and living example should be more than enough motivation...

It looks like the dad was studying for the LSAT. and then curious daughter peeked over and saw he was doing Logic Games or whatever and thought she could do it to. Then they both apply to law school and graduated together, daughter passed the bar and dad well......

I look forward to the day all of the gating issues towards being a lawyer are totally removed. Just grind the integrity of being a lawyer into the dirt. Replace the bar with the GMAT. Replace the LSAT with particularly colorful fingerpaintings.

"Replace the LSAT with particularly colorful fingerpaintings."

Bias against the color-blind humans.

This is not as bad as it sounds. Dad is an electrical engineer and already working in-house as a senior patent agent. I'm guessing his company footed his bills and Akron isn't that expensive for the daughter especially if she's smart enough to pound sand and got a good tuition discount.

The daughter got a job as a "judicial attorney" at an appellate-level court where she clerked, so she'll probably be fine. Depending, I guess, on what "judicial attorney" means. But it doesn't seem like a temp gig.

The only way this ends up a wash for the dad is if he never passes the bar and/or if his company doesn't want "uppity" people advancing as attorneys in the law dept. (Some companies are like that - knew a woman who was a paralegal who went to LS and upon graduation the best her company would offer is "keep on being the very best paralegal we have").

“upon graduation the best her company would offer is ‘keep on being the very best paralegal we have’ “

Unfortunate yet very believable. Corporations are funny that way - they talk about wanting their employees to develop their career and grow, yet when they do they are all “oh, hey, we didn’t actually mean it...!”

Status quo is preferable, because uppity employees mean you have to do more work filling holes left behind by your new and improved employees, and who wants to do actual work?
