"Americans might be penniless, they might be homeless, they might be fucked over and fucked up it doesn't matter, because it's equalized on that day - a millionaire has the same number of votes as the person without a job: one. And there's more of the former middle class than there are in the millionaire class. So on November 8 the dispossessed will walk into the voting booth, be handed a ballot, close the curtain, and take that lever or felt pen or touchscreen and put a big fucking X in the box by the name of the man who has threatened to upend and overturn the very system that has ruined their lives: Donald J Trump."

first the Repub congress has to get some neverending investigations going maybe something along the lines how she subverted children's lunchtime menus with leftwing food choices, that would be a real hit among the Trump crowd, they could start taking their kids to ER for all sorts of mysterious ailments which Trump could then run with

Michelle Obama has made many powerful fashion statements during the past eight years, and the former first lady stepped out in style once again for her final day at the White House.

Obama wore a belted maroon print dress with black suede pumps to greet President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, the new first lady, at the White House on Inauguration Day. Obama added an elegant coat to the ensemble and changed into tall black boots.

I've never seen a Trump hater more happy about the results of the election. Doubly so cause he was one of the few predicting it. I guess if it hadn't panned out he could quietly return to his hole he comes out of less and less and no one would remember.

It's the first time he's been a little relevant since Fahrenheit 9/11. His recent documentaries have bombed and now he's taking in money hand over first from wealthy resisters and passing himself off as the face of the working class man again. He had shrewd insights no doubt, but he seems to enjoy the limelight more than he's upset with a Trump win.

how is he a hypocrite? He doesn't say people shouldn't be rich or that rich people are bad, he just wants to tax them slightly more. He thinks he should be taxed more. When rich millionaire bankers talk about lowering taxes, I wonder if they think lower taxes are good for the country, or good for them personally. When rich people want to raise taxes on themselves, it is less suspect.

He denigrates working class people who support Trump and supports liberals who are for open borders. He speaks out against so called "stupid white men," yet he has always lived in neighborhoods that were 100% white. He is nothing but an overweight blowhard who lives high on the hog from espousing causes that go against the working class white people whom he pretends to speak for. He also pretends to hate the establishment, yet he is one of their media darlings. Go figure.

Michael Moore's films are pretty much about Michael Moore. Back before he bcame really famous (2000), we exchanged emails about ralph nader and his books and movies. He seemed alright.

But yeah, I feel the same way about Rush Limbaugh. From 2001-2008 no one really cared what he thought, but he was everywhere in 19992-2000, and 2008 to 2016.

A couple of liberal friends who hate Trump admitted as much shortly after he was inaugurated. I voted for him but am not as optimistic. I would say the economy will decide, but the economy is great now and he's still at a low approval. I think it may depend upon foreign affairs and if the dems can unite.

Reply
massivemissive (Aug 30, 2017 - 11:26 am)

I agree with most of what you said. But I don't think the economy is great. Sure, stock market is doing well and unemployment is low, but wages are terrible.

The only metric needed to assess the real economy IMHO, is the median household income, which is lower now than it was in 1999 in adjusted dollars.

It doesn't look like Trump is growing in support, so even if he garners the same numbers, this is more about dem turn-out which is totally dependent on who they run.

FWIW, I have no faith that the dems will run a focus on health care, campaign/lobbying reform, and the economy, but between now and primary season a lot can happen. There really isn't a front-runner or ordained candidate right now.

I think Martin O'Malley could be strong if he pulls back a little on the environmental stuff.

Reply
wutwutwut (Aug 30, 2017 - 5:14 pm)

I liked O'Malley in the debates. What I got to see of him, that is. F-n media running the shows wouldn't even stay on his face for the duration of a single question - it was always about getting SHill in all the shots, and to a certain lesser extent, then Bernie. They really tanked his campaign from the start.

Bernie? Corey Booker? Bill maher keeps pushing Gavin Newsom, but I don't think Newsom is going to appeal to working-class/low income voters they're talking about winning back.

Reply
wutwutwut (Aug 30, 2017 - 5:18 pm)

I wouldn't underestimate the power of good looks in politics, even for the working-class/low income/low info voters. If they could rough Newsom up a bit he might fly. Better than Bernie or Booker. He's also got the hot wife (and hot ex-wife) thing going for him.

Edit to add: He's also the first person the dems would be running since Bill with a significant amount of executive experience.

The problem is that the Dems have no good candidates. There is no Marco Rubio for them. They aren't going to win the White House with a Northeast liberal or Californian on ticket. Dukakis, Kerry, and Crooked should have taught them that.
