Chris Matthews was right. We all know Trump is going down. It's only a matter of when and how. No way there's this much smoke, and no substantial fires. He has no friends in DC. He has run a criminal enterprise for the past 40 years. As the man told Frank Lucas in American Gangster, "quitting while you are ahead is not the same as quitting".

Trump could, as Matthews said, leverage his office, leverage the horrendous havoc he could inflict while awaiting the inevitable sandman dance, in exchange for the ability to keep himself and his kids out of prison and to not die in poverty.

Trump is guilty of massive racketeering violations. He is likely guilty of treason. He is plainly guilty of conspiracy to violate federal and state law. He is guilty of tax fraud. He is guilty of myriad campaign finance crimes. He has openly attempted to obstruct justice. He has attempted to sell his office not to one country, but to several. I am sure there is massive bank fraud to be found here if prosecutors care to look for it. There is fraud upon investors in his foundation. IIdiot that he is, he brought his children into his criminality so now they can be used against him. I bet every day he speaks to multiple staffers who are wearing wires for Mueller or other prosecutors.

I would seriously not be surprised if this man defected to Russia ahead of the pose. It's that bad....

Why not walk away with your kids while you still can?

Seems like a good strategy is to get reelected and stay out of prison that way. Once Trump is out of office there is nothing to stop his enemies from pouncing on him.

Should have dropped out once he saw he had a shot.

If Trump resigns now Pence can pardon him for any and all alleged fed crimes. A Beto O'Rourke administration may not be as sympathetic.

That's why he should just run again. If he loses just pardon yourself don't rely on Pence.

You're assuming that Trump lasts long enough in office to see another campaign season. I'm not so sure. Plus if he resigns now it spares not only him but his political party of even more collateral damage and embarrassing information disclosed to the public.

I think he will offer to resign eventually, but not until he knows what he is getting out of it and gets more pressure from others in the federal government. It's just a matter of time. Two weeks until we have a Democratic House. That will make a big difference.

I think not indicting a president is silly policy and not in the constitution. You should at least be able to do a sealed indictment to ensure no statute of limitations issues. According to a recent poll, most Americans believe presidents should be indictable.

71% of American believe a president should be able to face indictment, per Quinnipiac. Clearly only a tiny insignificant minority is ok with a president being above the law.

No, it wouldn't. But I say he can be imprisoned. That doesn't automatically remove him either, but then impeachment or the 25th Amendment, or resignation, would be more likely.

I guess we've seen this play out with Nixon but you had undeniable recorded evidence we don't have that here.

Reply
drewprocess (Dec 20, 2018 - 5:00 pm)

What is undeniable recorded evidence? If Nixon had been Trump, he just would have yelled "fake news" or denied that was his voice on the tape, or denied that the tape was real, and Fox and Friends would back him up on it: "Democrats hired "crisis actors" to make the tape. Trump lies about everything.

Really, what evidence would be incontrovertible to the point that Trumpsters would admit it? Trump went on national TV to ask the Russians to hack Hillary's emails, which they promptly did. The payoff for pornstars was in a written agreement and all parties confirm Trump was involved - a clear campaign violation. The payoffs from the National Enquirer have now been confirmed by everyone involved.

Reply
anotherjd (Dec 20, 2018 - 5:06 pm)

You might be right but a tape of him in the oval office directing a cover up is the kind of evidence you need to get Republican senators on board.

An indictment on anything less than a very serious felony is a waste of time.

Mueller knows showing collusion beyond a reasonable doubt is the stake through the heart of Trumpacula -- that's treasonous behavior and no stupid mantra that a sitting president can't be indicted will matter anymore, that only works if Trump shoots some illegal immigrant on Fifth Ave in New York like he said he could do without losing any support "from my people"

Really? What rock have you been hiding under? Trump has already been implicated as 1) a co conspirator in campaign finance violations, 2) embezzlement of funds from his foundation, 3) massive, widespread and blatant obstruction of justice, 4) accepting bribes from the Saudi government, and 5) accepting bribes to change Republican platform vis a vis Ukraine.

He is being investigated for conspiring with Russian intelligence to steal information from the DNC and using it to influence the election. Nixon was removed from office for doing the same thing sans help from the Russians.

And of course, you right wing nuts make this 20 month argument after a 4-year ultimately fruitless congressional investigation of Benghazi? Geesh.

I think a lot of people feel that way, but the GOP Senators, and trump himself, will decide what deal they get, not us. All we get to do is vote, call our representatives, protest. The GOP Senate holds the cards here. I'm positive the House will impeach, but they may wait a few weeks or months, depending on how things play out.

Reply
blackpappy (Dec 23, 2018 - 6:43 pm)

Trump will die broke and in prison. The writing is on the wall. The only thing that will stop it is his flight to Russia in the dead of night.

It is beyond obvious that this man is an agent of one or more foreign countries. The arrogance of the white nationalists, their desperate clinging to power in the face of demographic certainties, is the only thing that keeps him in office. There are millions of white people here who'd rather see a totalitarian white-run state than a state whose government is somewhat reflective of the diversity of this country. When these people say democracy, what they mean is government by and for white people.

Obama is the ultimate cause of all this. Many whites simply cannot stomach the idea of sharing political power with non white people.

Trump is gonna take a page out of Hitler's playbook when he saw the writing on the wall -- the classic scorched earth policy but I'm not going to predict what happens the minute it reaches the "without a doubt" stage, that my friends, will play itself out in a most remarkable way
