Maybe I missed it but Clemson is in the playoffs with a true freshman QB yet the be media barely mentions that unique situation.

I've been watching college football for 40 years and cannot remember a championship contender with a true frosh QB - under any format (bowls, BCS, playoffs). Maybe somebody recalls something I don't. I'm all ears

Combination of Lawrence being that good and talented coming out of highschool and coaches at top schools moving away from the old way of thinking of never ever ever starting a freshmen QB.

Jamelle Holieway when he took over midseason for Troy Aikman @ Oklahoma. Beat #1 Penn State in the Orange Bowl.

LOL - Holieway crossed my mind but I didnt recall if he was a redshirt. He was famius for carrying around a purse that he characterized as a "man pouch"

USC was expected to contend for a title with Matt Barkley as a true freshman. They ended up going 9-4.

LOL- Barkkley is still hanging around the NFL on somebody's bench.

At least he's not as ignominious as Ron Powlus. Was he even drafted after those 4 Heismans?

I like Barkley but another USC QB is the polar opposite of Ron Powlus in terms of college career vs. NFL career.

Matt Cassel never even started a game at QB in college. I find that incredible given that he was able to make a career for himself in the NFL. He even played in a Pro Bowl.

Cassel is still hanging around the NFL; on the Lion's bench this season. This is something like his 14th year in the league.

What are the odds that a QB who couldn't manage to start a single game for his college team could end up having a long NFL career?

The Cassel story is even more LOL when you consider that at USC he was behind NFL bust Matt Leinart.

Settle down, double fried. I forgot that Hurts was a frosh in his first title game.

What's the 1980s ACC reference? Clemson in 1982? (Homer Jordan?)

Woops, I thought maybe O'Donnell (ACC), McNabb, and some others but they were redshirts.
