the wall is useless. In Trump's own words "a rope" is all that's needed.

No one in their right mind thinks a wall would be effective.

I dont. I agree with you. Wall will be ineffective.

Faced with a prolonged shutdown, you pay. A prolonged shutdown will cost more than even $5B.

Not sure how a rope would work with that palisade design.

It won’t be effective in the sense that you’re not going to be able to put it across the entire border and the cost/benefit of the wall is really poor.

unless the entire wall is manned, smugglers/immigrants are going to just use a rope or a ladder to climb over.

It would be a deterrent for where the wall was located. Especially if well designed. The concept and cost of the wall in relation to the illegal immigration problem is the real issue, not that walls don’t work as borders.

I don't understand the problem, Repubs still control all three branches of government. It's not like it was dem's idea to give everyone a vacation.

We should just build a little wall. And a catapault. If illegals come here and commit crimes, we catapault them back where they came from. That’ll fix their attitudes real quick.

Dems shouldn't give him anything because he's a bad partner and a terrible dealmaker. As TWBB noted, there was a bipartisan deal to fund the government and give Trump something he could frame as a win to his base and the WH signaled they'd take it, then Trump turned his back on it when he heard Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh complaining about him.

They give him $1B for the wall plus $1.6 for border security in general, what if Limbaugh and Hannity and Coulter complain again and Trump just continues the shut down?

A spending bill passed both chambers, unanimously passed in the Senate. Trump's the only one to blame here.

Trump's a total moron for turning down the bipartisan deal to fully fund the wall.

No, I’m referring to the bipartisan offer from last year, where Dems were willing to back fully funding the wall in exchange for permanent DACA protection.

It was going to happen, then that squirrelly weasel Miller convinced Trump to ask for even more in the deal and it collapsed.

If he had taken the deal, he would have delivered on his signature promise and kneecapped the Dems ahead of the midterms. He’ll never get an offer that good again. President Deals, the master negotiator.

Trump has only ever negotiated from a position of strength.

It’s easy to set the terms if you can walk away whenever you want (especially if the other party can’t).

I remember once my former boss cane back from a negotiation with a financier: “it went well, they’ll take 75% of the profit”. That went well? “If you need a billion dollars, you take any terms they give you”
