she'll be fine. She's out of the hospital less than 2 weeks after a fairly major surgery for someone her age.

Plus, her movie just came out.

Too soon. Rehnquist missed almost a full year of arguments (on and off) before finally passing away.

There’s no way to know from the PR releases just how bad off she is. She could be wiping her feet off at death’s door mat right now and the PR would make it seem like she’s a few weeks away from returning to work.

She's dead this year. I'd put even money on it. She's been a walking corpse for the past couple of years. Now she's bed ridden. Once you stop at that age, you stop for good.

Yeah, old age sucks.
It is a spiral and once you break a hip or have a fall and hit your head, it’s only a matter of a year or less.

It’s my fantasy that RGB ends up dying during the Trump Administration and that the Republicans agree to appoint Garland after a constitutional amendment is passed that provides 18 year terms, 60 senate vote threshold for confirmation, and creation of a 10 senator (5 dem/ 5 reps) committee whose job it is to make a joint list of acceptable recess appointments until a 60 vote candidate can be agreed to.

This will never happen of course. RGB would die and Trump would appoint Barrett or Kethledge or Thapar.

If only we can have a larger, more liberal and progressive government staffed by people like Ginsburg, eg highly intelligent people that place the interests of society as a whole ahead of their own immediate self interest, then we can really go forward.

Wait a minute...

You need to convince a deity to change human nature, in the meantime... to paraphrase Ben Franklin those advocating equality are usually wolves voting with the sheep on what’s for dinner.

Prevent Losers from obtaining any real power. Maximize the number of Jocks and Nerds in power, but not so that you displace the Preps. Keep the Preps in check with labor shortages, antitrust laws, and strong anti fraud legislation. Whenever someone is adovacting for bigger government, it’s the preps, the real ones, pulling the strings with High and Ascended Losers acting as the “hitmen” so they can real pillage the system. If you don’t push back, eventually the High Losers and Ascended Losers take over, and the real pain begins, as those individuals are not motivated by anything other than hate, envy, and a lust of power.

If you do this, de facto, the Scumbags are protected.

Nothing more can be done. Equality is a con job run by totally corrupt Preps in the shadows and High and Ascended Losers in the limelight (even though the latter are waiting for total collapse so they can exert their hate on the world, even their corrupt Prep masters).

Proof: by their deeds you shall know them. Ginsburg has been advocating for self scarifice and a responsible government for 40 years, but when it came time to walk the walk, pure selfishness and lust for power prevailed.

Politico says White House is quietly putting together a replacement list. Obviously not definitive, but that isn’t good news.

I suspect the White House has the closest inside knowledge of anyone outside of her family and the court itself. That might still be zero because they don’t want to share it with a Trump White House in particular. And this might be something they are doing just to be safe as the article suggests as opposed to insider knowledge.

My wild ass estimate is wherever you were on a scale of 1-10 before this news, you should add a point. So if you were a mildy concerned 4, this news should put you up to a moderately scared 5.

Edit: I went back to try and find articles about Rehnquist. In July of 2005, he sent out a letter saying all was well after he went into the hospital. He went back into the hospital with a fever in August and died on September 3rd. But when it was announced he had cancer in 2004, the type of cancer disclosed indicated that it would be a tough hill to climb. Here at least the medical experts willing to give punditry say that she should be fine.

wouldn't ANY institution that has lifetime appointments ALWAYS need a replacement list handy? I'm sure the day that Kavanaugh was finally confirmed, the Trump people already had their next short list ready to go.
