Better movie - Godfather I or II?

II is better, but not by a lot. The flashback scenes from the 20s are just awesome. Not a single frame out of place. Pure virtuosity.

hard to decide. If you held a gun to my head I'd probably say II. I just really hated James Caan as Sonny, that's probably my only beef with I. I didn't have a single beef with II in any way.

II. Hyman Roth, the aborting of the male child, Fredo. Just an awesome movie, like I. But II is better.

The scene where Kay tells Michael of the abortion is maybe some of the best acting Pacino has ever done. And that's saying something.

I love the story line about setting up the casino operations in Cuba. However, the thing I don't like about Godfather movies is that there are too many betrayals. I mean everyone is betraying against Michael, it gets boring

Just rewatched II and still think I is better. There are just more scenes of quiet intensity and suspense.

Don't ask me about my business, Kay.
Then after she leaves, Duval and co come in and kiss Pacino's hand, and she knows he's the Godfather.
Godfather I for me, I like the laying out of the whole family dynamic, the meeting of the five families, etc. Godfather II was Robert De Niro's film, and Godfather III was just an abomination.

It’s the American film, the ultimate American film. It lays the whole system bare, from corruption to gangsterism to hypocrisy to will to power to family above all to family most likely to hurt you.

Greatest films of all time.
