Also true of Louis Goehmert, Steve king, Duncan hunter, and numerous republicans. She seems to represent her constituents’ priorities well even leaving aside the fact that a majority nationwide want a 70%+ tax rate on income over 10M. What’s your point?

I like the green new deal. Not perfect of course but if we are going to bankrupt the country, which we are doing anyway, might as well get tangible infrastructure for it instead of stupid foreign wars, healthcare for fat people and tax breaks. Unfortunately those all still get priority

AOC's green plan sounds particularly backwards/third world: Let's phase out air travel, stop raising livestock, and give money to people who don't want to work.

Like all of her ilk, her politics boil down to: A. Give up your freedom and B. Give me your vote in exchange for free handouts.

Just read it. There is NOTHING in there about giving money to people. Its all about cleaning up the environment, creating jobs, and investing in infrastructure. You are being lied to again.

Republicans have been lying to you about free money for people who don't want to work since Reagan. Its all just a scam to cut taxes for rich people.

Whatnext, bangie, etc, sometimes you guys lean to hard to one side. What JDC refers to as motivated reasoning, I think.

The "unwilling" WAS INDEED in her original FAQ blog page, but it is now history. However, sometimes history can be re-created.

No idea whether it was just a dumb typo or a dumb staffer, or if that was truly her intent.

Anyway, find it by pasting this below into the google:

And there it is in all its splendor:

Green New Deal FAQ
February 5, 2019 Blog Post
What is the Green New Deal?

The Green New Deal is a 10-year plan to create a greenhouse gas neutral society that creates unprecedented levels of prosperity and wealth for all while ensuring economic and environmental justice and security.

The Green New Deal achieves this through ...

It guarantees to everyone:

A job with family-sustaining wages, family and medical leave, vacations, and retirement security
High-quality education, including higher education and trade schools
High-quality health care
Clean air and water
Healthy food
Safe, affordable, adequate housing
An economic environment free of monopolies
Economic security to all who are unable or unwilling to work
The frontline communities that are already facing

I stand corrected. There have been loads of fake documents going around. Since it’s already been amended, my guess is it was just sloppy language.

Idc I am for paying people not to work anyways. UBI baby!

Agree anytime the right claims anything abt Pelosi, hrc, AOC- mantra should be "give it the fisheye until verified". But i apply the same fisheye across the board, or try to (as JDC alludes, we may not always be automatically aware of our motivations).

Reply
wutwutwut (Feb 8, 2019 - 9:55 pm)

Oops, forgot to mention, although it probably goes without saying - I am not a fan of the idea of paying people who can, but merely do not wish to, work.

So - no UBI cheerleading from me.

EVERYONE suffers from motivated reasoning, including myself. The best you can do is try and realize it and lean against it. I’ve gotten too deep on arguments here and will do so again.

So it was explicitly considered then didn’t make it into the final version proposed by AOC? So her rejecting something means she supported it?

Reply
wutwutwut (Feb 9, 2019 - 1:02 pm)

NICE SPIN MAN.

If only that's what you and everyone else had claimed previously, that would at least pass the smell test.

But arguing that it never happened (when it did) and now pivoting to "well, it wasn't the final version" is kind of weak.

Especially since she published it and only took down the web site "as if it never happened"** once people took note and started talking about it. Thereby fooling people into arguing on her behalf that it never existed or that accounts of it must be false. ("WOW An anonymous unsigned document on documentcloud.org?")

Her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, sort of airily referred to it as some bad copy that's floating around out there, not mentioning it was posted to her house.gov blog.

Hey, we're not responsible for stuff that's just floating around out there... LOOK! A squirrel!

Cornell Law prof Robert Hockett who is AOC's advisor on the Green New Deal went on TV yesterday and did his best to spread misinformation about it, saying it was a doctored document and claiming that the repubs had put it out there.

Media Matters for America is crowing about how this was a great example of liberals correcting conservative media lies:

https://twitter.com/ndrew_lawrence/status/1094046349329338369

As of 0900 this morning, however, news sources had shifted from "didn't happen" to "accidentally released" by AOC camp. Apparently MMFA hasn't gotten their new marching orders yet, because their idiotically wrong tweet is still up.

** Kind of 1984-ish that this is being done with official house.gov websites. I'd prefer it to acknowledge the original with a corrected version instead of pretending it never existed.
