Sad picture/profile.

Will he "find himself" in time to run a serious race for POTUS, or is he just doomed to "permanent exile" on Oprah's couch and the road to political obscurity?

From manny to loser, nothing's changed.
At 23, he was watching preschoolers on a futon, now he's driving the country to find himself.
I am looking for someone who's already made their life, and offers solutions, not some drifter finding himself on the electoral dole.

Maybe he's actually thinking about things. The press has puffed him up relentlessly and most likely hyped expectations beyond anything he could possibly meet, and it appears that he recognizes this. If he declares, he'll just be another face in an increasingly larger crowd, and while running a "close" race makes for good copy, he doesn't hold elective office and lost his last election. There all many in the press pushing him to enter, so it's a good thing he's taking some time to think things out.

I've been reading Beto's Twitter account to find out what exactly his point is. There are no specifics, just vague nonsense.

https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/1094786430155612161

"We need everyone to join us tomorrow evening in El Paso as we celebrate our community. The country will be watching, and it falls on all of us to tell the true story about the border."

What does this mean?

https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/1094645170652569603

"We want to see you in El Paso tomorrow evening as we celebrate our community. Everyone is welcome. Details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/537578166725292/ …"

Again, what does this mean?

https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/1094407046714269696

"In less than 48 hours, we'll gather together to celebrate El Paso and tell the truth about the border. Make a plan to join us Monday evening. See you soon."

What. Does. This. Mean.

https://twitter.com/BetoORourke/status/1094342641578323969

"The eyes of the country are on El Paso. And we're going to tell our story. Join us Monday evening."

What does this mean???

I'm guessing he wants you to attend his counter-rally at the border...but is being pretty opaque about it.

What is "the truth" about the border?

Who is hiding this truth, or preventing Beto from shouting this "truth" far and wide?

Beto just had a profile published by the New York Times. He has more access to mass media than 99% of Americans. Why didn't he tell the Times about this "truth?"

Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Nighttime would find me in Rosa's cantina
Music would play and Felina would whirl

Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina
Wicked and evil while casting a spell
My love was deep for this Mexican maiden
I was in love, but in vain I could tell

One night a wild young cowboy came in
Wild as the West Texas wind
Dashing and daring, a drink he was sharing
With wicked Felina, the girl that I loved

So in anger I challenged his right for the love of this maiden
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore
My challenge was answered in less than a heartbeat
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor

"What. Does. This. Mean?"

Apparently Beto's gonna challenge some dude to a duel over a cross-border love interest.

Trump has already started attacking the guy tonight over--what else??--CROWD SIZE. ROFL. As usual, Trump kicked off his speech exaggerating the size of his crowd and falsely lied that Beto's crowd "just numbered a few hundred" in comparison. Of course, the paid TrumParrot Chorus dutifully laughed and applauded in response on cue.

An interesting side note is the music he played before the rally began: Elton John. Elton would probably be horrified that Trump is using his songs at political rallies.

I've decided to re-write the Marty Robbins song I quoted from above.

I'm planning to call it, "Reporter's Lament: On the Beto Campaign Beat".

It starts off with:

"Out in some West Texas town with this asshole,
Fool thinks that he can become president..."

(If you don't know the tune to sing along to - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJfWXyaJrGQ)

But I got writer's block after the first two lines.

What is it about the national press and Texas state elections? As bad as the reporting on Beto was, for a real jolt go back and read the pre-election press on Wendy Davis for the 2014 Texas governor's race. You'd swear she was a real candidate with a real chance. I think she got 39% of the vote. It was a massive landslide for the GOP.

With the endless, naval-gazing, road tripping tweets--"Have been stuck lately!! In and out of a funk! Can't decide what to do! Where to go next!!"--he comes across like a silly teenager anguished over what college major or job path to take in life.

Not exactly the best image--or character--for a "serious" POTUS candidate or future world leader. Come back in another decade when you have decided what you REALLY want to do in life.

"I have never understood this guy’s appeal"

+++++++++++

Me neither. Total product of media hype + Internet fundraising. He was considered the next "shiny, new, thing" in politics solely because he almost beat Crazy Ted. Now that race is over, the spotlight is dimming, and he is desperately trying to stay relevant with a rather strange Jack Kerouac-esque, navel-gazing road trip/twitter storm, trying to "find himself". LOL I also saw him in a CNN Town Hall last year. I thought he sounded too much like a slick, focus-group-vetted, evasive slogan spewing "typical" politician. I think he will be buried in IA along with Pocahontas.
