He’ll likely be impeached and resign in the Summer. He might could survive a Senate trial but I bet he makes some sort of deal to avoid that.

LOL.

What does it matter?

Impeachment = "I will become more powerful that you can possibly imagine."

Without sufficient senate support to remove, impeachment will only embolden him and his supporters.

Short of Mueller having a smoking gun hidden somewhere, he will finish out his term.

Even though for 2 years he had a full GOP congress, his major victory was a tax cut for the rich that blew up the deficit. Now, he can pretend the wall was his #1 goal while blaming the dems and having his useful idiot base angry at the libs while the stock market crashes their 401ks, their jobs get shipped overseas, and automation finishes off American industry. Impeachment just plays into his hand of playing the victim and that the dems are the cause of all these failings (including Mexicans taking over or something).

"... while the stock market crashes their 401ks, their jobs get shipped overseas, and automation finishes off American industry."

We've been hearing that for the 40 years prior to Trump's presidency. It also describes the future after Trump. Did you expect any different during Trump? If so, why? The cheap, foreign worker is like a tractor. It displaces jobs, but it's still progress. You can't stop progress.

I did not expect anything different under Trump. He said it would be.

I have no problem with people throwing up their arms and saying something along the lines of, "Of course politicians lie!"

The issue I have is that Trump supporters still cling to the fantasy that he is different somehow.

Yes, he did. That's what they do in campaigns.

The economy is just too big, with too many powerful, competing stakeholders to allow one guy to change it. Sure, he gets to twist a few knobs to see what will happen, but there will be no major shake-ups like his detractors want to pretend they fear.

The main point I have in this subthread is that Trump is now blaming the Democrats, playing partisan politics, when he was unable to get this very thing (the wall) under GOP control of all branches.

He is trying to put the shutdown on the dems, when there is no way his own GOP Congress would have given him what he wants, and still today will not give him what he wants (last I checked, they still hold all the branches).

If he's so proud of his shutdown for a wall, why didn't he do it at any point in the last 2 years? Because he didn't have the scapegoat of an incoming blue House to lay blame on.

Don't derail the conversation into whether or not he could have been effective at stopping the direction of the economy/labor, or whether "that's what they do in campaign" (i.e. "Of course politicians lie!"). The point I'm making is that once again, Trump is playing his base and they are willingly following him without any regards to truth or facts.

He is a great at playing his base, keeping them believing that it's "them" hurting "us" and "them" keeping things on the wrong path.

GOP has control of both houses of Congress but it’s the Democratic filibuster preventing the funding from passing the senate. It’s not like he couldn’t get 50 senate votes for the thing. That’s like saying it’s Obama’s fault for not getting cap and trade passed.

The wall is bad policy, but it’s not as though Trump hasn’t been trying to tack it to appropriation bills before this. He can’t get the Democrats to get onboard because they don’t want to give him the political win (and it’s dumb).

With the caveat that’s it’s 2018 where crazy things happen all the time, that’s not going to happen. Especially not for the stupid wall. Democrats will do it in the next 5-10 years, and blame the republicans for making them do it.

Prez reneged on a deal with his own party.

I doubt he ever gets the wall now, but let's see.

He's in serious trouble tho.

It's bad for the market to bounce around like this.

We are on the cusp of a recession despite a MASSIVE tax cut, president's shutdown could lead to a ceasation of services which proles depend on, fed is raising rates which means inflation is coming and that hurts proles, trade war will also help with inflation, and trump cant deliver on his campaign promises.

I dont care about the middle class because they are too small to matter now, but if he angers the poor and the rich, he's in trouble.

Trump has taken on a lot of risk for a low payout.
