"Trump says federal workers want his shutdown."
Trump told reporters Tuesday that “many” federal workers support the shutdown, saying he’s heard from federal workers who want him to “stay out until you get the funding for the wall.”
“These federal workers want the wall,” Trump said during a question-and-answer session in the Oval Office on Christmas Day. “The only one that doesn’t want the wall are the Democrats, because they don’t mind open borders.” --
nothin' like lying through your teeth to the American people on Christmas day but hey -- that's Making America Great Again!!

Guarantee you I've talked to more "on the ground" municipal, state, and federal workers than Trump.

By and large, their number one concern is getting paid and their pension (same as mine would be). LOL at the idea that anything approaching even a simple majority is happy with this.

Throughout his campaign he's used this "everyone tells me XYZ" bit to justify his crap. He's full of it, if people don't see it now and still support him based on what he says, they're never going to learn.

I know lots of Fed workers. Don't listen to them whine over the shutdown if it has to do with money. They get paid for the time off on the furlough every time (or at least as long as I can remember). Yes, it is annoying for them, but they should be able to float a 2 week lull in pay, especially when they get it a big paycheck when they come back.

The real people who got screwed were those who had annual leave in or vacations planned. My understanding is that all leave was cancelled.

They are funded through the 11th of January. It goes beyond that, yeah they should worry.

Why wouldn’t they? They’ve gotten back pay for the shutdown every single time. It’s a damn paid vacation for them.

During this week, it's not bad. You can make that holiday trip that you weren't doing otherwise because of too short a break. Some DC restaurateurs are doing free sandwiches for furloughed feds, and there are drink deals and shutdown themed cocktails with names like Nothing Really Mattis and Border Wall Banger. All that allows for so-so cheer for a few days. Beyond that, it's fear, uncertainty, loathing, dread, frustration, etc.

Yea, we've gotten back pay in the past, but this administration is notably...different than the rest.

People are talking about applying for unemployment. I guess that is done in these situations.

Back pay only works if you're not already behind on your bills and can hold out until you are paid back. Lots of people are really poor financial planners and live well outside their means.

Anyhow I figure this is as good a way to run out the clock on Repub's control of the House as any. Fine nothing gets done.

According to this, no furloughed Feds miss even part of a paycheck until January 11. Senate already passed a bill saying you get paid on voice vote and house seems to be in agreement.

Anything beyond mild unease is unwarranted. The fact that DC is full of poor financial planners helps explain why the U.S. can’t balance a budget. I’d be very surprised if frustration and loathing weren’t already on the menu for DC Feds vis a vis Trump. They went 90.9% for Hillary after all. Can’t even recognize the hand that feeds them when Trump ballooned the federal budget.

Ok they're BAD people for being bad financial planners and also they're Democrats or whatever you were arguing. I couldn't really follow it mostly because all I actually said is that back pay is great if you're up to date on your bills and/or won't incur a bunch of late fees.

I will say though if you're trying to argue that 90% of fed workers voted Hillary then Trump's claim that they heavily support whatever dumb thing he's trying to achieve is rather suspect, especially because he appears to be making the claim with no real evidence.

In any event, Repubs have control of all 3 branches of government. They're just running out the clock and as such they should receive 100% of the blame.

I’m sure you’re correct that even if what Trump said was true, the implication that a significant amount of feds support the wall is nonsense. I think that’s a given.

Well...time to get with the program.

Human nature is what it is. You can’t change selfishness and/or competiveness.

Whenever I speak to rich government workers, they don’t seem to have a civic duty and/or are grateful that they are exempt they from the horrors of globalization. They think they are smarter than their private sector counterparts. Maybe so. They don’t need my vote or support then...
