the crack in Trump's authority as President of the United States of America has appeared and it's bigtime deadly serious -- would this have happened if the Dems hadn't taken control of the House, Powell had to have factored that in his rebuke of Trump's authority to turn the Federal Reserve into just another one of his side shows

Well, it's typical ridiculous Trump behavior, with much yapping in the press-but he's never called the guy, or asked to meet with the guy, to express his displeasure with the guy's behavior. This business of tweeting and complaining to friendly journalists is irresponsible and no way to govern. If Powell is acting inappropriately-in Trump's opinion-then Trump should call him on it directly-either by requesting a meeting or at least picking up the phone.

Why couldn't trump have done a tiny bit of research and appoint a guy with views he agrees with?

No such person exists; Trump's views change constantly. Like he complained about the Fed not raising rates before, now he's complaining about raising them.

Trump could install himself as Chairman, that would please his base -- and tank the market, but hey maybe the market needs a reality check and Trump's the obvious guy to do that, maybe he'll promote Ivanka, that'll look good on her resume

"Ivanka Trump Is Reportedly Under Consideration To Lead The World Bank"
Ivanka Trump is one of the names being considered to replace The World Bank's outgoing president, Jim Yong Kim, the Financial Times reported Friday.
Before joining the White House, she worked as a vice president of acquisitions at the Trump Organization. She also directed her own fashion line, the Ivanka Trump brand, which was shuttered last summer. President Donald Trump also floated Ivanka as a replacement for the outgoing US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, but ended up nominating State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert after concerns of nepotism were raised.

trump is never going to realize it, but authority depends on some level of mutual respect. Or fear.

The people in the administration who are not his toadies do not fear him and do not respect him. His administration is widely seen as incompetent and lacking in authority. When he falls, it will be very quickly.
