I feel terribly for those folks who missed their first paycheck today.

How can people making only $84k be expected to have enough savings to miss one paycheck?

I remember when I was unemployed--all those federal employees sent me checks and cards and sympathy letters for months.

These sob stories are winners--keep it up! The American people are behind you! The average American household income is WAY above $84k, after all! Right?

What is the average and mean salary of those federal employees that have been furloughed? That's much more important.

All the crying about not being paid should be starting today. They hadn't missed any paychecks up to this point. It is why I found the whole sob story after sob story about them not being able to pay their bills to be ridiculous when they hadn't missed a check yet.

When I was a fed employee only one person out of the dozens I worked with lived paycheck to paycheck but his penchant for hoookers and blow would have put him paycheck to paycheck anywhere. Almost everyone earned over 84k, plus amazing bennies, but to be fair it was a bunch of lawyers who would have been earning 160k starting average salary out of law school otherwise (jk jk). Most of us hoped for a shutdown so we could get paid time off.

If the food stamps run out, that’ll be a different story
