Wonder why the city caved? The ordinance seemed viewpoint neutral - according to the story, it only said signs needed to be less than 6 feet wide and didn't seem to care what was on the sign, and apparently his sign infringed that.

How big was this sign, anyway?

Probably because they decided it wasn’t worth the fight. The guy would claim that it was being enforced in a content or viewpoint discriminatory manner. Plus some municipalities still have specific restrictions on political signs which are content discriminatory and haven’t been rewritten.
