Ms. Abrams gave a great speech.

Running as Senator in 2020? I think she'd win.

She could do a term as Senator then come back and win GA Gov after that.

I think she did fine, all things considered.

I watched an excellent movie on TCM about Vincent Van Gogh ("Lust for Life"). It's a fairly old movie but I love it because it features many close up shots of his actual paintings.

I worked on a memorandum in opposition to summary judgment. Finally figured out why the parties might as well be speaking Chinese at each other. Old people are not good stewards of memory.

My biggest takeaway is that Rick Perry was named the designated survivor to dissuade terrorist plots.

"Old people are not good stewards of memory."

This can happen for legitimate reasons, but all too often it seems like it's "do what I say, not what I do, dammit!" Talk about grudges.

I felt sorry for Stacey Abrams. The media outlets kept introducing her as “the unsuccessful candidate in last year’s Georgia gubernatorial race.” Couldn’t the Democrats have picked a winner? I think this was a victory of optics over common sense.

ANOTHER example of DNC just pandering to PC, checking the base boxes instead of picking the best speaker or someone likely to appeal to moderates and the rust belt voters they lost in 2016.

2016 may as well have been 20 years ago. It's hilarious the way people act like it was representative, rather than an anomaly. Turning out people of color and minorities is essential for Democrats.

She will win the next time she runs for anything in GA, the demographics there are changing super fast. State will be a dem stronghold in a decade. They can run anyone and win at that point

President Trump's SOTU received 76% approval.

It's interesting that a lot of the Trump haters are claiming they didn't watch it.. or had it on mute. Lol. Some liberals likely did refuse to watch it, though, preferring to hear about how bad it was from the predictable talking points of the MSM instead of watching it for themselves and making up their own minds.

About 5 or six polls were conducted immediately afterwards. I don’t normally put much stock in polls, but these all came out about the same. It was a tremendous speech. Trump killed it. You should have probably watched it.

Reply
catwoman333 (Feb 7, 2019 - 11:23 pm)

Actually C-SPAN is GREAT!! IMO the most accurate, unbiased barometer of REAL public opinion. It's the only TV news channel that regularly welcomes guests and call-in comments from average Americans all over the country (all different views, parties, regions), instead of relying solely on paid political DC pundits to "interpret" the news (i.e., put their partisan spin on it).

I always skip MSN, CNN, and Fox spin and watch C-SPAN after big speeches (like SOTU or debates) to get a more comprehensive, objective assessment of what AVERAGE Americans think of their government and officials. After the 2016 debates, in contrast to what networks and pollsters were telling us about the race, I knew Clinton was toast because I heard so many Americans (including lifetime Democrat voters) calling in on C-SPAN and saying they would not vote for her.
